Chief Executive Officer

Paul Hedman joined Smartner in September 2003 as Chief Executive Officer. He brings over 20 years of international experience in IT and telecom industry.
Prior to Smartner, Hedman was Managing Director of IBX, Integrated Business Exchange, in Norway. |
At IBX, one of his key achievements was the successful establishment of an active Nordic partner strategy and structure.Before this, Hedman led Telia Electronic Commerce in Sweden, a daughter company of TeliaSonera. As the Managing Director of the company, he was responsible for building company's organizational structure, recruiting key management, establishing the management team and leading its strategic planning among others. In addition, Paul Hedman held various strategic positions at IBM where he spent 17 years of his career.
Originally from Sweden, Hedman has a vast international experience working in different counties including the UK, France, Norway, US and Saudi Arabia.
Paul Hedman earned a Master of Science degree in Computer Science and Mathematics' from the University of Stockholm, and a Master of Business Administration degree from Brussels Business School in Belgium.

Executive Vice President,
Products and Marketing

Ari Backholm joined Smartner in December 1999, just three months after the company was founded. He is one of the four entrepreneurs that have managed Smartner's growth and established relationships with some of the leading players in the mobile industry, including Vodafone, Nokia, Sony Ericsson, and Microsoft.

Backholm heads the products and marketing team responsible for Smartner's global product management and marketing activities. His mission is to ensure that Smartner's solution continues to meet the customer needs and remains the preferred mobile office solution.
Before joining Smartner, Backholm worked for Sedecon Consulting where he oversaw strategy, business development and knowledge management projects for major Finnish and international corporations. Prior to this he was a teaching researcher at the Helsinki University of Technology in strategic management and marketing.
Ari Backholm holds a Master of Science degree in Technology with concentration in Strategy and International Business. He is currently finalising his doctoral thesis at the Institute of Strategy and International Business at the Helsinki University of Technology in Finland.

Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer

Mika Uusitalo is co-founder of Smartner and Chief Operating Officer. He is leading the customer services, hosting services and internal IT functions. Previously, at Smartner, he was Chief Technology officer.

Together with his strong entrepreneurial skills, Uusitalo brings over eight years of experience from the IT industry, mainly from the field of mobile technologies. Before co-founding Smartner, he worked as Technology Manager for Digia Ltd., a smartphone systems integrator company. At Digia, Uusitalo was the key founder of company's Symbian Competence Center. Prior to this, he worked with IT systems development at Nokia, ABB, and Solid Information Technology. Mika Uusitalo earned a Master's degree from Helsinki University of Technology, with concentration in Industrial Management and Software Systems.

Co-Founder and Vice President,
Strategic Partners

Jussi Räisänen is co-founder of Smartner and Vice President with responsibility for developing and deploying Smartner's strategic direction for our largest global customers. He develops strategies and plans that are designed to ensure total customer satisfaction and continuous development of our strategic partnerships. |
Prior to co-founding Smartner, Räisänen worked for Digia, a Finnish new media company, where he combined management consultancy with the development of business application software. In addition, Jussi Räisänen worked for the World Bank and Trantex, a localisation services company, now part of Bowne Global Solutions. Jussi Räisänen studied at the Institute of Strategy and International Business at the Helsinki University of Technology, Finland, where he met the other co-founder of Smartner, Mika Uusitalo.

Chief Financial Officer

Kari Vuorihovi joined Smartner as Chief Financial Officer in October 2003. He brings over 19 years of experience in senior positions in financial management and business development of IT and telecommunications companies including Nokia, ICL, Fujitsu and TeliaSonera. Vuorihovi has specific experience in M&A activities |
and in financial management of international groups of companies.
Vuorihovi joined Smartner from TeliaSonera Corporation were he had a dual role as the Group Finance Director and the UK Country Manager of Sonera Juxto Group, Sonera's ICT business in Europe.
Vuorihovi earned a Master of Science degree in Economics, Accounting and Tax Law, from the Helsinki School of Economics in Finland.

Vice President,
Engineering

Lauri Vuornos joined Smartner as Vice President of Engineering in 2000. He earned a Master of Sciences degree in Software Engineering from Helsinki University of Technology in Finland. With four years experience of successfully managing software development for highly turbulent markets, |
Vuornos also has solid background in programming, software design and testing. Previously Lauri worked as a software engineer at Comptel, the global market leader in convergent mediation and provisioning software solutions. Vuornos has also published research paper for ISESE in 2003 on improving the software development process in small software product organization with a research group from Helsinki University of Technology.

Executive General Manager,
Smartner Limited

Richard van Beckhoven joined Smartner in January 2002. He is responsible for Smartner’s sales activities in Northern Europe, Middle East and Africa. In addition, as Executive General Manager of Smartner’s UK subsidiary, he oversees all operations of

the Cambridge office. Richard brings over 16 years of experience in leading-edge technology sales and delivery to the telecommunications industry and major blue chip organisations. He worked for a number of technology start-up organisations over the past ten years where he held senior roles in sales, business development and operations. Richard was most recently Director, Business Development for Ztango Ltd, a Wireless ASP and Telematics start-up. Prior to this he was Director, Global Operations for Call Sciences delivering Unified Messaging services and solutions to Wireless and Wireline operators throughout US and Europe.
Richard holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from University of Auckland in New Zealand.
