SMARTNER RELEASES A WIRELESS ASP SOLUTION FOR WIRELESS BUSINESS SERVICES - Email and Calendar Extender Smartner’s new applications for the enterprise market
Smartner Information Systems Ltd. releases a product family with which telecom operators and wireless ASPs can launch wireless services for their enterprise customers. Smartner’s solution is comprised of an application platform and wireless email and calendar applications that provide wireless ASPs with a rapid entry to the enterprise market. A central element in the Smartner solution is Smartner Enterprise Gateway, which enables a secure connection from the service provider to the enterprises and their information systems. Security issues are essential for enterprises considering wireless services for their employees.
A growing number of enterprises are looking for wireless services to provide their employees with location-independent access to the enterprise information systems with mobile phones. Smartner Email Extender and Calendar Extender are applications that allow wireless access to enterprise email and calendar software. "When the service is hosted and administered by a service provider, the enterprise can concentrate on its core business. Wireless services have not been offered to enterprises by service providers until now, because connecting to enterprise information systems involves challenging security issues. Smartner’s solution incorporates a secure connection between the applications offered by the service provider and the information systems of the customer enterprise", says Mika Uusitalo, Chief Technology Officer of Smartner. "With Smartner Enterprise Gateway, email and calendar information is securely transferred from the enterprise server to WAP and GSM phones".
The Smartner solution is empowered by three technology components that can be combined in different ways to build wireless services. The solution can be cost-efficiently scaled to serve a large number of enterprise users. It also includes administration tools the service provider can use in order to administer several enterprise customers simultaneously. The same technology is incorporated in Smartner’s email and calendar applications. Both applications can be used with WAP and SMS. Smartner Email Extender connects to servers that support POP and IMAP protocols (e.g. Microsoft Exchange) and Calendar Extender to Microsoft Exchange.
The components in the application platform include APIs to both enterprise and service provider information systems, as well as to different end user terminals. Smartner Engine provides a basis for operators and other wireless ASPs to develop wireless application portals that can be accessed with different types of browser devices (WAP, WWW). Smartner Messaging Server is a tool for building wireless multi-network messaging solutions. Smartner Enterprise Gateway enables Smartner’s wireless business applications to connect to enterprise information systems. The core benefit of Smartner Enterprise Gateway is a secure connection between the service provider’s wireless applications and the information systems within the enterprise. It features SSL encryption and a lightweight connector deployed on the customer premises.
