SMARTNER INTRODUCES 3G TURN-KEY CONNECTIVITY TO ENTERPRISE IT SYSTEMS

Smartner Information Systems, the leading provider of hosted mobile business solutions, has today introduced Smartner Office Extender 2.0 at the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, France. The new edition of Office Extender provides employees with a secure turn-key mobile access to their enterprise systems through an operator-hosted service. Thus, enterprises can have a future-proof mobile office solution without complex system integration or investments in rapidly evolving mobile network and terminal technologies.

Smartner Office Extender provides employees with mobile access to their enterprise email and personal information management (PIM) systems, such as Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Domino. To further facilitate the easy deployment of mobile access, the new edition introduces several enterprise security options from a turn-key solution without any footprint at enterprise premises to full-fledged VPN solutions. Enterprises can subscribe to a mobile access service of their mobile operator, without up-front investments in software, hardware or system integration.

Smartner Office Extender has been utilized by the most advanced mobile operators as a driver for content in their GPRS networks. The new edition has been optimized to take further advantage of GPRS and 3G always-on functionality. The user can, for example, have an up-to-date display of his recent emails, calendar events and tasks on the screen of a GPRS enabled phone.

Smartner also announced that the company has successfully tested and verified its application in a 3G test network. Smartner Office Extender, providing access to enterprise email and calendar with mobile devices, has been tested live over Radiolinja’s WCDMA test network in Finland. Radiolinja, the largest private mobile operator in Finland and a partner of Vodafone, has offered a GSM and GPRS service based on Smartner Office Extender since October 2001.

“3G networks have the same always-on functionality that is making GPRS a success story in enabling mobile access to enterprise systems - combined with the enhanced data rates. We are looking forward to pursuing 3G opportunities together with the leading mobile operators and service providers globally. The announcement today underlines our devotion to empower future-proof mobile services”, says Ari Backholm, Vice President of Business Development at Smartner.
