SMARTNER PROVIDES BUSINESS TRAVELLERS WITH GLOBAL OFFICE SPACE
Smartner Office Extender 2.5 provides mobile workers with real-time access to server-based email & Office applications
Enables true global mobility - connectivity remains even in locations where mobile coverage is unavailable
Ensures business travel does not impinge on work efficiency
Smartner Information Systems, the leading provider of hosted mobile business solutions, today announced a significant development to its Smartner Office Extender product suite version 2.5.
For the first time, users working away from their main workplace can remain fully synchronised with their server-based email and applications, enabling them to work with colleagues, clients and customers as if they were at their desktop.
Smartner Office Extender already provides mobile employees with access to their desktop email and personal information management (PIM) systems including Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Domino. The enhancements to the product, currently deployed to business users across Europe by Vodafone and IBM, will also enable mobile device users to connect to their office even when mobile coverage is unavailable.
According to the European analyst house IDC, synchronisation and offline access will be critical to the mobile enablement of business applications in the future.
“Office Extender 2.5 takes advantage of the latest technologies to greatly enhance our “mobile desktop” services. Earlier this year, Cap Gemini rated Smartner as the best mobile office product on the market, in terms of ease-of-use and security,” said Mika K Uusitalo, Chief Technical Officer at Smartner.
“This latest version will not only enable mobile workforces to remain in touch with the office, they will be able to work with the same efficiency as they could if working from their PC. The ability to synchronise data is essential and marks the next step in mobile communications for the enterprise space.”
Email synchronisation is currently available for users of the Compaq iPAQ and Palm and will be offered to users of smart phones and other PDAs by the end of the year.
For the IT manager, installation of the Office Extender 2.5 is simple. The solution is hosted by the mobile operator and the connector software is distributed over the network.
