SMARTNER RANKED A TOP PLAYER TO GAIN SHARE IN MOBILE MIDDLEWARE MARKET
Helsinki, Finland – Smartner today announced that a report by industry analyst firm IDC ranks Smartner as a top global mobile middleware vendor. “Wireless carriers provide the largest opportunity to deliver on the promise of mass-market adoption of mobile email," says Stephen D. Drake, program manager of IDC's Mobile Software service. "Suppliers delivering software solutions to carriers in Europe and Asia have an opportunity to grow the number of mobile email subscribers in these high penetration regions.
Entitled "Worldwide Mobile Middleware 2004 – 2008 Forecast and Analyses”, (IDC #32212, November 2004), the IDC study examines the mobile middleware market for the period, with vendor revenue trends and market growth forecasts. The worldwide market for mobile middleware software will grow from $424.4 million in 2003 to $1.3 billion in 2008 at a compound annual growth of 24.2%, the report states.
Commenting on the IDC report, Ari Backholm, Executive Vice President at Smartner said, "2004 is closing out to be a great year for Smartner and mobile email in general. This IDC report acknowledges the major achievements of Smartner becoming a preferred provider of push email for mobile device manufacturers, operators, and service providers for the benefit of enterprises and mobile users worldwide. The widespread acceptance of modular structure Smartner Duality Always-on Mail provides an excellent foundation for enterprises and operators to move beyond mobile email and PIM to mobilise line-of-business applications and a truly real-time mobile middleware."
According to the report, the mobile middleware market continued to mature as organizations take serious efforts to mobilize their assets to improve employee productivity, create additional business efficiencies, increase customer satisfaction, and provide return on investment for its business. It is no longer a question of when (in fact many organizations are mandating mobilization), but a question of when and how many workers over a period of time. Mobilization is happening across the largest businesses today, but is being implemented at the group or division level where line of business executives have the freedom to make faster decisions on a mobile deployment project. Through all of this, mobile middleware remains the core software solution to enable this mobilization, and mobile middleware providers are one of the four key stakeholders in mobile deployments that also include wireless carriers, professional services organizations, and mobile device manufacturers.
